The new craze that has swept the nation: KONY 2012

KONY 2012. I suspect many of you know of it, at least somewhat vaguely. There is a man named Joseph Kony who has supposedly been kidnapping children from their homes in Uganda, South Sudan, Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The warlord then outfits the young with guns and makes them into his makeshift army. The current count of children is somewhere over 30,000 captives and the numbers are growing.
This picture is an example of one of many propaganda items that are floating around on the web.

One question I have for the majority of KONY 2012 supporters is: Why are you putting so much support into an organization that 'helps' people overseas when the United States itself needs help with its many unresolved problems?

I think that too many people decide to jump on the Invisible Children bandwagon without thinking about the problems their own country has. We are more than $15.6 trillion dollars in debt. Why are we going to another country to solve their problems?

I also would like to point out the message on the poster above. It says "KONY 2012: The Worst". Then there is Hitler and Osama bin Laden behind Kony.

Compared to the two others, I think Kony's actions are quite underwhelming. And the kidnapping is happening in Uganda, South Sudan, Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo , so why aren't the citizens and army doing something about it? It is their country. The plight of 30,000 children should be high on the countries' priorities, despite the Lord's Resistance Army's evasiveness.

Additionally, some other questions you should ask yourself: 30,000 children would be very difficult to hide. How has Kony been managing it for 26 years successfully? How has he been feeding those people? Can we really base our judgement on the situation of the plighted countries by using a viral video on the internet? Is it right to trust the voice of a man recently discovered to have suffered a mental breakdown?
